Dear NPPA Patrons, Life Members, and Community Members, Jwajalapa, Nepa Pasa Pucha Amerikaye (NPPA) continued the tradition of honoring its Patrons & Life Members and celebrating World Newah Day, on Saturday, March 25, 2023, amidst a dinner and entertainment program. It was organized at Tandoori Nights, Virginia, USA, and about 200 Patrons, Life Members, and guests attended the event.

12th IHI Ceremony – 2022

Dear IHI Participant Families, Jwajalapa, The upcoming 12th IHI Ceremony countdown has wound down to “less than a month to go”. You must be as excited as we are. For us at NPPA, this event defies the theory/law of diminishing return, our excitement keeps on increasing. NPPA is the pioneer in preserving Newah culture beyond Nepal and appreciates your support in this effort. Each and every Newah community member is an integral part of this culture and plays a vital role in passing it on to the future generations. NPPA has finalized the preparation to celebrate the 12th IHI ceremony as per the following details: Date:  Saturday, May 7, 2022 Time:   7:00 AM Venue:   Hare Krishna Temple Address:   10310 Oaklyn Drive, Potomac, MD 20854   Brief outline of the IHI Ceremony rituals is provided below, along with various other pertinent details: 7:00 AM – Arrive and prepare Kanyas for IHI, family photo session Laskus – Traditional welcoming of all the Kanyas by the Thakali Naki to Pooja Mandap Purification Pooja with mustard seeds by Thakali Naki & their mothers Mandap Pooja by Kanyas 108 times head-to-toe looping of yellow sacred thread of Kanyas by Thakali & Naki Mandap Pooja by all participants Kanyas are taken out of mandap for break and snacks Break of 30 minutes – Provide refreshment (juice & fruits) to Kanyas Purification Pooja of Kanyas by Thakali Toe nail clipping and toe/feet coloring of Kanyas by Nini (fufu) Laskus – Traditional welcoming of all the Kanyas by the Thakali Naki to Pooja Mandap Sindurohan by Thakali Naki Pooja by Kanyas’ Parents Kanya Daan (Pray the patron deity and Subarna Kumar or Bhagvan Bishnu to bless their daughter) Mandap Parikrama & seven steps on Gwa ha (Pan ko pat) Kumar and Kumari Pooja Barah chhuyegu (offer rice & gifts to all the Kanyas) Thaya bhu for Kanyas (24 items of food for Kanyas) Avishek, Ashirbad, and Jal Prasad by Priest Gift to Nini (fufu) Conclusion and distribution of IHI Certificate to Kanyas by NPPA President Prasad / Lunch As of today, 26 kanyas have confirmed participation in this year’s IHI ceremony. As mentioned above, the IHI contribution covers five family members. From management point of view, we need approximate head count in order to provide ample food. NPPA’s 4th Youth Networking and Mobilization Event

Nepa Pasa Pucha Amerikaye (NPPA) is organizing the 4th Youth Networking and Mobilization Event. When: Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 10:30 AM – 2:00 PMWhere: Arlington Public Library, 1015 N Quincy St, Arlington, VA 22201 The purpose of this event is to connect potential mentors within the Nepalese community with our younger generation. We expect it to foster a rich personal and professional development of our youth. You will learn many facts and ideas to be successful in your career during this event. If you have questions about life after high school or college application process or life after college or need professional career advice or anything in between, we will do our best to connect you with the appropriate person to help you through this phase of your life. A panel of professionals from various backgrounds will be invited who will share their personal and professional journey. Participants will have an opportunity to meet the panel members, ask questions, and gain knowledge from them. We will also have many other professionals (Information Technology, Scientists of various disciplines, Business, etc.) attending this event. Mr. Manohar Shrestha

President Mr. Manohar Shrestha is a Senior Business Intelligence professional. He has 25 plus years of Information Technology experience, which includes ten plus years of data warehousing and data analysis in various sectors. While in Nepal, he served as Senior Administrative Officer and Administrative Manager at the Royal Danish Embassy and U.S. Peace Corps/Nepal, respectively, where he was also responsible for development, implementation, and maintenance of the information technology systems. He was actively involved with the Red Cross in Nepal and coordinated several programs/events. He received his Masters of Business Administration degree from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. He resides in Aldie, Virginia with his caring wife Mrs. Anjaly, son Anugh, and daughter Aishwarya. Email: manohar.shrestha@nppa-usa.org

Mrs. Shanti Shrestha

Vice-President Mrs. Shanti Shrestha is currently working as a Desktop Specialist at EU Services in Rockville, Maryland. For more than 20 years, Shanti has been very active in the Nepali community in Washington, D.C Area. For the past decade, she has been helping Nepa Pasa Pucha Amerikaye in publishing the DABU Magazine yearly, volunteering different NPPA’s activities such as organizing cultural programs, administrating registration. Mrs. Shanti Shrestha was awarded for her exceptional and long-term service provided to NPPA. Mrs. Shrestha is also the Registration Chairwoman for the DC Nepali School in Vienna Virginia. She received her Associate in Arts from Prince George Community College and is also currently pursuing her BA in Business Management at University of Maryland, College Park. Mr. Allan Maharjan

Vice-President Mr. Allan Maharjan is an up and coming entrepreneur, currently managing a string of family owned jewelry stores. The stores span from multiple locations in Nepal, India and the United States of America. He has more than 10 years of experience in the jewelry industry, being involved in all aspects of it including manufacturing, grading, sales and finance. He has also worked on projects with Ridgewood Savings Bank and National Grid. He received his Masters in Business Administration in Executive Management from St. John’s University in New York and a double degree of Bachelors of Business Administration with concentration in Entrepreneurship and a Bachelors of Science with concentration in Business, Management and Finance from CUNY- Brooklyn College. He currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland.
